JOINT CALL FOR PAPERS 

A Book Review of The Satanic Verses Translated by Ji-Yu Yen

Submission Deadline: May 4, 2024

To promote exchange and development in the fields of literature, culture, and translation between Chinese and foreign languages, the Translation and Cross-Cultural Studies Center of the College of Foreign Languages at National Chengchi University, in collaboration with Foreign Language Studies, will host the “Master Translator Lecture” on May 18, 2024. We are inviting the experienced English translator Ji-Yu Yen to present a speech titled "I am the Translator of The Satanic Verses." Additionally, we solicit a book review of a translation work by Ji-Yu Yen. The book review shall focus on contemporary writer Salman Rushdie's controversial novel The Satanic Verses, published in 1989 translated by Ji-Yu Yen in 2002 into Chinese, analyzing the translator’s translation techniques and presentation as well as the significance of the book for contemporary Sinophone readers. The book review should be within 3,000 words. After being reviewed by two experts, up to three finalists will be announced, and an award ceremony will be held during the lecture. The winner will receive a certificate of recognition and a prize of NT$3000, and the winning book review will be published in the June issue of Foreign Languages Studies. The other finalists will receive a certificate of recognition.

Submission Guidelines:
1. Manuscripts must be original and not previously published in print or electronic media, and should not be simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
2. Please use real names when submitting manuscripts and provide contact information including permanent address, mailing address, ID number, affiliation and title, telephone, fax, or email. For those wishing to use a pseudonym, please indicate separately.

Formatting:
1. Submissions can be written in Chinese, English, Japanese, or Korean.
2. Book reviews should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.
